The truck features substantial updates to the powertrain, interior, and technology throughout the vehicle. If you’re ready for something exciting, you’ll want to head to your nearest Chevy truck dealer to check out the latest version of the Silverado HD.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Review

Chevy’s big pickup trucks—the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD—are fresh for the 2024 model year.

Along with new facial features, most trim levels benefit from a flashier interior design that first debuted in the half-ton Silverado about a year ago. However, the improvements to the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD truck are more than skin-deep.

The Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD 2024 get a facelift, and most models receive a luxurious interior with bigger screens.
The petrol model now has a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the diesel model produces 470 horses (up 25) and 975 pound-feet of torque (up 65).

The ‘2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD twins will enter production in the first half of 2023, with the first ZR2 version also joining.

One of the first visible feature updates for the 2024 Silverado HD is the addition of driver information and a large infotainment display.

The driver information center, with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, allows anyone operating the vehicle to view important data, including fuel mileage and distance to empty, battery and oil level, and driving mode.

The driver information panel also shows the speed of the vehicle as well as the navigation direction the truck is facing.

To the right of the driver information center, right on the center console, is the best-in-class 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

In addition to managing audio input and Bluetooth connectivity from your smartphone, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD can display map directions from your application of choice, eliminating the need for an additional phone holder.

The all-new infotainment center also comes with built-in Google Assistant, which allows drivers to utilize Maps and apps available through the Google Play Store as well as adjust vehicle-specific settings such as temperature by pressing a button on your steering wheel and using voice commands.

Chevrolet drivers are busy people, and the new console in the 2024 Silverado HD works to give you more control over your ride.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Redesign

Surrounding the updated console is an upgraded cabin designed to make the driver and all passengers comfortable during the ride. Ventilation and climate control are now available for second-row passengers.

Gone are the days of negotiating the level of heat or air conditioning that some passengers might want in the comfort of another car.

Certain trims incorporate wireless charging for smart devices, reducing the amount of mess that can occur when charging multiple phones at once.

Instead of front-to-back cup holders on the center console, they’re sided by side, reducing confusion when drinking. Up to 10 cup holders are available throughout the vehicle, depending on your truck’s trim level and other feature configurations.

Leather and wood accents around the cabin are also available on select trims to enhance the overall comfort of the vehicle.

Need more space to store important devices or documents? The updated 2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD has hidden storage throughout the vehicle, including the center console, sunglasses case behind the main screen, and tiered glove box.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Interior

For 2024, the supersize 2024 Chevy Silverado HD all sport the new mug, from the base Work Truck to the top High Country.

Along with a newly designed grille and C-shaped LED lighting elements, the LTZ and High Country trim levels feature new dual projector headlamps with animated sequences when the driver approaches or walks away from the truck.

Chevy is also supplying the ‘2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD with new wheel options, including 20-inch chrome wheels for the LTZ as well as polished 18-inch and all-terrain tires for the 3500HD dual rear axle.

Plus, a set of 20-inch off-road tires is now available with select packages. The Midnight Edition, a blacked-out appearance pack, is now also available in the High Country for the first time.

Inside, the heavy-duty 2024 Chevy Silverado HD adopts a new dashboard design with a prominent digital display. While the updated layout and technology features are not offered on the Work Truck or Custom trim levels, they are standard on the LT models and up.

The setup includes a configurable 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google-based software and apps. The updated interior also features a revised center console with wireless charging and more room for cupholders.

The most luxurious 2024 Chevy Silverado HD models have genuine leather-covered surfaces and real wood accents. Exclusive to the High Country, there’s the option of a new Nightshift Blue interior with all the finest materials.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD truck also benefits from better driver assistance. The list includes adaptive cruise control that works while towing the trailer, and the blind spot monitor now has more range when trailering.

Plus, there’s a new warning that lets users know if they’re exceeding the truck’s GCWR, and the available camera view that uses technology to make trailers essentially transparent has been upgraded to work with fifth wheel and gooseneck setups.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Exterior

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD doesn’t just look different on the inside; it has undergone a redesign for its exterior as well. The front bumper and grille have been changed to differentiate from previous Silverado models for a more rugged look.

The new LED graphic headlights are C-shaped and divided into two functions, with the same bulb acting as a high beam and a high beam for low-visibility driving.

The Silverado HD 2024 comes with standard tow hooks, 12 standard straps, and an adjustable Durabed cargo box with a best-in-class 83.5 cubic feet of storage capacity by bed length. You also get a six-position Multi-Flex Tailgate that can serve a variety of functions, including as an emergency workstation.

The tailgate has a 120-volt outlet available to plug in a light or tool to charge while working. Higher trim levels have additional lighting options available for the bed and perimeter of the vehicle so you can get the most out of your 2024 Chevy Silverado HD HD.

Need help getting to the front of the bed? BedSteps integrates with the back door to give anyone a boost.

ZR2 Comes to a Silverado HD Near You

The Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD 2024 will go on sale in the first half of 2023. The company says it will share prices closer to their on-sale dates.

Chevy also announced today that the heavy-duty Silverado will get an off-road-ready version of the ZR2 model for the first time, but will launch sometime after the regular truck.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT

GM revealed the fully updated 2024 Chevy Silverado HD in September, debuting it with various updates and tweaks for the heavy-duty pickup truck. Now, we’ve got our first look at the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT in a Regular Cab body configuration with these new photos.

While we’ve previously seen the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD in Crew Cab and Double Cab body configurations, including via spy photos of prototype models and official photos from Chevrolet, this is our first look at the pickup refreshed in the two-door Regular Cab configuration.

This particular example is the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD model, it is finished in Summit White. Combined with simple black trim and a two-door Regular Cab body, this base model WT truck is anything but simple.

The lighting treatment looks familiar, with thin upper lighting elements in the corners of the fascia above the horizontal lighting elements that make up the grille, but there are still a few updates worth noting, such as a new grille pattern, and a new lower bumper treatment. , and a thin lower horizontal styling line separating the grille from the bumper.

A simple set of silver-plated steel wheels sits in the corners, while a sizable rear fender accommodates a single rear wheel (as opposed to a double rear wheel, or “dual” arrangement). Also notable are the sleek side mirrors.

Critically, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT trim level and the Custom trim level both feature the same interior layout as the pre-refresh model. The LT and above trim levels come with an overhauled interior design first introduced with the 2024 model year refresh.

Further updates notably for the 2024 model year include powertrain changes, with the standard 6.6L V8 L8T petrol engine now linked to an Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, rather than the previous six-speed GM equipped.

Additionally, the 6.6L V8 L5P Duramax turbodiesel engine now produces 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, compared to the 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque it made before the refresh.

Production of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD will begin in the first half of the calendar year 2023. Production will take place at GM’s Flint Assembly plant in Michigan and GM’s Oshawa plant in Canada.

New Transmission, Stronger Diesel

Sure, the facelift and redesigned cab help keep Chevy’s heavy-duty pickups looking fresh, but the bottom line is that the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD are built for the job.

That’s where their updated powertrain comes into play. The standard gas-fueled 6.6-liter V-8 is unchanged, meaning it produces the same 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque as its predecessor.

However, it is now paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission instead of a six-speed automatic.

Chevy says the new gasser gearbox helps the engine make better use of its peak power. For 2024, the gas-fired Silverado HD also has a higher Combined Gross Weight Rating (GCWR), which increases from 24,000 to 26,000 pounds.

The optional 6.6-liter V-8 Duramax diesel continues with the same Allison 10-speed automatic, but output gets a significant boost. It now produces 470 horsepower (up from 445) and 975 pound-feet of torque (up from 910).

Chevy says the improvements result from updates to the control architecture, combustion system, and turbocharger, which are also said to help deliver up to 25 percent more low-end torque and improve efficiency.

However, we don’t know how the update will impact fuel economy as the trucks are exempt from EPA testing and the company is not currently sharing estimates.

What we do know is that the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD 2500HD and 3500HD 2024 still have maximum tow ratings of 22,500 and 36,000 pounds, respectively.

Towing & Trailering Capacity Increase

The highlight of the Silverado HD 2024 is its improved trailering capabilities and new features to match.

The 2024 model is the first model to include adaptive cruise control when trailering, with integrated cruise control now taking into account increased braking distances and drag from the added weight.

The truck is equipped with up to 14 different camera views to keep an eye on the surroundings while driving, hitching a trailer, or backing up a driveway or parking space.

With extended trailer side blind zone warnings, you can increase awareness of what may be happening around you while operating the vehicle. A transparent Trailer Display is also available to ensure the trailer is properly attached with all cargo strapped during your journey.

With the available Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine, the maximum available towing has increased to 19,150 lbs for petrol vehicles and up to 36,000 for diesel.

As a heavy-duty truck, the 2024 Silverado is designed to increase the ease with which you can move with a trailer while keeping yourself and those around you safe.

Enhanced Safety Features

As a heavy-duty truck, the Silverado HD is slightly larger than other vehicles you may see on the road; thus, safety features and driver awareness have been enhanced to include the latest cutting-edge technology.

In addition to Adaptive Cruise Control which can now be used when towing a trailer or other cargo, the Silverado HD features following range indicator alerts, which can provide drivers with the timed distance between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of it.

If the number of seconds is too close, you will be able to slow down. The new Silverado HD has a forward collision warning available to warn the driver if a potential collision is imminent or could be avoided, changing color based on risk.

Additional safety features that can be controlled through truck settings include:

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Release Date

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD will introduce a mid-cycle refresh to the heavy-duty pickup line, featuring revised exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit, powertrain upgrades, and more. Now, GM Authorities have exclusive knowledge of when production will begin.

Sources close to the matter told GM Authorities that the start of regular production (SORP) of the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is currently scheduled for February 2023.

For the uninitiated, here’s an overview of the changes to the HD truck. On the exterior, the 2024 Silverado HD receives a new front fascia, which includes new headlamps, a grille, and signature C-shaped LED headlights.

Tow hooks can be found on all trim levels, and customers can choose between six new exterior colors.

Moving inside, all LT trims and above are given an overhauled cockpit, which includes an all-new 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch diagonal configurable driver information center.

Additionally, the Silverado HD is getting enhanced trailer features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailers, Enhanced Transparent Trailers, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and GCW Alert.

All heavy-duty pickups are expected to register heavy towing numbers, and the Silverado HD is no exception. If properly equipped, the Silverado HD has a trailer capacity of up to 36,000 pounds.

Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD uses a 6.6L L8T V8 petrol engine as standard fare, while a 6.6L V8 L5P Duramax turbodiesel engine is optional. The Duramax boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, up 25 horsepower and 65 pound-feet over the previously refreshed model.

Regardless of engine choice, every Chevy Silverado HD runs an Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the six-speed GM equipped with the previous petrol-powered model.
